Opal Gem-quality opal is one of the most spectacular gemstones. A single stone can flash every color of the spectrum with an intensity and quality of color that can surpass the "fire" of diamond. Opal derives its name from the Latin opalus and Sanskrit upala meaning precious stone. There are three different types of Opal defined as Precious/Rainbow Opals – rarest displaying flashes of iridescent colour, Common/Potch Opals – found in many places displays opalescent pearly lustre and Fire Opals – mostly found in Mexico translucent red or orange sometimes with flashes of green.
